Daisy Does… Feet

The perfect pedicure (at home!)

Happy feet

Looking after your feet is always important, but never more so than at this time of year when our pretty sandals get resurrected from the wardrobe (and we treat ourselves to a new pair!).

After spending months in winter socks and boots protecting our feet from the cold weather, it’s finally time to embrace the sun and show off our little tootsies. However, our feet are one of the most used and abused parts of our bodies, so it’s vital to prepare them before they see daylight.

Forget about spending a small fortune on a visit to the pedicurist; we can all get glorious feet at home.

Daisy’s Guide to Fabulous Feet.

How to treat your tootsies:

  1. It’s best to prep your feet by soaking them in a large bowl of warm water for 10-15 minutes. This will help soften any hard skin you may have and get them ready for the next stages.
  2. Next, use a foot scrub to eliminate dead skin. Apply it in circles, leave on for a few minutes then wash off.
  3. Gently use a foot file or pumice stone to exfoliate any hardened skin on your heels. Don’t be too rough because your feet are very sensitive.
  4. Now you’re ready to apply nail polish. Apply a clear base coat first as this will prevent staining from coloured nail polish, then apply a shade of your choice and wait for it to dry.
  5. Finish with some moisturising foot cream and voila, you’re done! You will now have colourful super soft feet and you did it yourself.

Here are a few foot products tried, tested and recommended by Daisy Green team…

Ecotools Ecopumice, £3.99, boots.com

Nicola: I find there is little more satisfying than sitting in the bath removing hardened skin from my feet! This stone is good and chunky, really tackling the problem areas.

It’s a natural piece of stone with no added chemicals, has a nifty string to hang it up to dry and the company sports the 1% for the planet logo.  5/5

EcoTools Sustainable Moisture Socks, £5.99, boots.com and LUSH Coco Lotion, £9.25/225g, lush.co.uk

Allison: Simply massage the Lush coco lotion into your feet (which was light and soft to use without any overpowering smell), pop the moisture socks on, sit back and relax or go to bed.

I would usually find going to bed with socks on extremely irritating, but they are so light weight and allowed my feet to breathe I hardly noticed I had them on.

The next morning I woke up to find I hadn’t pulled them off during the night and that my feet felt lovely and soft. 4/5 for both products.

Akoma Tiny Bird Big Song foot cream with tea tree and raw shea, £5.99, akomaskincare.co.uk

Michelle: This smelled amazing. I massaged it into my feet and heels and when I woke up the next morning I had super soft feet. Great product. 3.5/5

Weleda Foot Balm, £8.50, weleda.co.uk

Elizabeth: This foot cream was thick and easy to apply and made a real difference to my incredibly rough and battered feet. 4/5

Martha Hill extra rich foot treatment cream, £8.50, at time of going to press, £6.35,  beautynaturals.co.uk

Gill: This had a really soft texture and was easy to apply. It really made a difference to the skin on my feet, as they felt a lot softer after use. It had a subtle mint aroma which was very pleasant. 4/5

Butter London nail lacquer in Artful Dodger, £12, butterlondon.com

Michelle: Perfect for summer. It’s easy to apply and is a lovely shade. The square top of the lid was unnecessary, but apart from that I couldn’t fault it. 4/5

OPI nail polish in Guy Meets Gal-Veston, £10.50, opi.com

Gill: I loved the colour and it went on really smoothly, drying more quickly than other products I have used. It was quite thin and I needed to apply three coats, but once finished it looked lovely and smooth. 3/5

  1. I’m surprised to see a LUSH product mentioned here. They use parabens and SLS!

  2. Hi Emily,
Here at Daisy we prescribe to the precautionary principle of avoidance where you can, taking the time to write.
