New Yin Yang range gets the balance right

Natural skincare brand fuses science with beauty

Yin Yang, the natural British beauty range is reviving its skincare regime.

And we’re loving it.

Fragranced with subtle essential oils, Yin Yang’s paraben and colourant free formulations smell heavenly as well as being really effective.

They’ve certainly done their homework. Yin Yang sought scientific advice on the skin’s biochemistry and physiological structures to formulate and develop a high quality but hard-working skincare regime. The brand’s creator Katie May says:

‘The skin is our body’s largest organ and is located at the interface between the external and internal environments, strategically placed to act as a barrier against a range of noxious stressors (UV radiation, chemical and biological toxins) and act as the periphery’s ‘sensing’ system’. It is very important that the skin has its optimum pH level of around 5 to correct the acid and alkaline balance’. She adds:

‘While nature has provided our skin with an acidic mantle, we would do well to protect this crucial aspect of skin health.

‘Avoiding exposure to common daily stressors such as harsh alkaline soaps and solvents. I developed Yin Yang to enable healthy micro-flora to remain on the skin as many cleansers and moisturisers unbalance the natural environment leading to greasy or dry skin. All Yin Yang products are balanced to a pH level of 5 for ideal healthy skin conditions’.

Yin Yang is celebrating 37 years of business with a new look and products that include:

Yin Yang Skin Cleanser – cleansing botanical cream, £12.50
Katie May says ‘good skin care begins and ends with thorough, mildly acidic, cleansing without the use of harsh chemicals to balance acid/alkaline levels ’.

Yin Yang Skin Cleanser is a gentle emulsion of spring water, witch hazel, coconut oil and zingy essential oil of sweet orange. The mildly acidic plant ingredients are used to strengthen the pH protective barrier of the skin to maintain and restore its condition.

Orange Flower Skin Tonic – cooling toner, £12.50
A traditional Yin Yang product, this cooling tonic refreshes, moisturises and tones the skin. The gentle combination of pure spring water and witch hazel energised with Vitamins A, B and C supports the fine tissues around the eyes while soothing and hydrating delicate facial skin.

The tonic’s naturally balanced pH of around 5 maintains and restores the skin’s defensive ‘acid mantle’ while the light fragrance of sweet orange and warm geranium uplifts the senses.

Natural Moisturiser – light moisturiser for daily use, £13.50
A simple yet effective moisturising cream, Yin Yang Natural Moisturiser protects against dryness, skin sagging and age spots. Suitable for all ages this delicate botanical cream leaves skin fresh and nourished.

Rich Skin Food – indulgent skin cream, £19.50
A luxurious, antioxidant rich cream, it helps enhance the pH barrier that protects the skin while repairing scar tissue and skin damage caused by environmental factors.

Formulated around Yin Yang’s signature botanical protein base, Yin Yang Rich Skin Food is enriched with nutritious wheat germ oil for antioxidant Vitamin E and carrot seed oil rich in Vitamin A. Essential oil of geranium complements this moisturising skin food with a warm and comforting fragrance.

The soya protein is gently fermented to release the full amino acid pattern found in human skin. The combination of ingredients is rich in vitamins and minerals including Vitamins A, B, C, D and E, calcium, folic acid and zinc to restore and repair.

pH-Amino Gold Defence Lotion – all weather face and body moisturiser, £16
Yin Yang Skin Defence Lotion is a versatile protective cream for the face and body, rich in antioxidant Vitamin E and popular with outdoor sports enthusiasts. The British Olympic Ski Team adopted the cream in the 1980s due to its excellent protection from harsh environmental factors.

Creator Katie says: ‘the high methionine content makes this lotion ideal for those seeking natural protection from the sun without the harsh metals and chemical additives that comprise a major part of ‘factor’ creams’.

Fragranced with essential oil of sweet orange and soothing lavender, it hydrates the skin and maintains balance.

Kaolin Face Mask – new deep cleansing face mask, £12.50
A deep cleansing, toning and revitalising treatment for all skin-types, Yin Yang Kaolin Face Mask works to draw out impurities, removing dead skin cells and unblocking pores – leaving your complexion clear, rejuvenated and revived.

Using Cornwall mined clay, Yin Yang Kaolin Face Mask actively helps to clear and hydrate congested skin, whilst its highly absorbent minerals and essential oils leave your face nourished and re-energised.

Katie says: ‘The unique formula of the Yin Yang Kaolin Face Mask remains moist instead of drying to a hard paste, enabling easy removal and preventing skin irritation, so it has never been easier to get blemish-free, revived, glowing skin naturally ’.

Skin Renew - moisturiser, ideal for women post menopause, £15
An all-natural botanical and mineral-rich cream to reduce the impact of natural ageing using Zinc-PCA and organic soya-derived isoflavones.

The Organic Soya can improve skin quality using the phyto-oestrogenic benefits of isoflavones (plant hormones with a similar structure to human oestrogen) and Zinc-PCA has shown collagen boosting benefits. It’s packed with other hardworking, sweet smelling ingredients including balancing orange oil, geranium oil and balancing apple cider vinegar.

The Daisy team’s favourite from this well thought out range was definitely the Gold Defence Lotion (see above) – a great little multasker, ideal for travel. It left our skin silky soft and beautifully fragranced.

The new Yin Yang range is now available from Holland & Barrett
