It's spring time! Five steps to freeing your skin from the ravages of winter
Oh my it’s been a long, cold winter. The sub zero temperatures and biting winds, combined with harsh central heating will have taken their toll on your skin. But fear not! Help is at hand.
Margaret Weeds of organic range, Essential Care, says,
The skin is the largest elimination organ of the body, so using chemical-free skincare products all year round will reduce toxic load, but in order to slough off the winter from our skins, improving sluggish circulations, focusing on exfoliation and extra moisturisation with vitamin-rich plant oil products will pay dividends.
So here’s what we can do to ‘spring clean’ our skin:
1. Exfoliate. Lift away dead skin with a natural ’scrub’ like Essential Care’s Honey and Oatmeal Bar. For a credit crunch homemade version, add rolled oats to your usual cleanser. For a refreshing once a week pick me up, blend three tablespoons of oatmeal with the juice of one grapefruit, leave for 15 minutes and rinse.
2. Boost with vitamins. Perk up a lacklustre complexion with a vitamin boost. If you use them for long enough, serum’s loaded with fruit oils can help to repair damaged skin. Try Africology’s Anti-Oxidant Serum. Apply morning and night.
3. Moisturise. Use a rich one if your skin needs it. We like Aveda’s Tourmaline Charged Hydrating Creme and Beyond Organic’s Moisturising Day Cream.
4. Supersoft lips. Our lips are one area that seem most susceptible to the elements. Gently rub off dry skin with a toothbrush then add your favourite balm. We like Green People’s Cool Lips.
5. Here, there and everywhere. Don’t forget the rest of your body. Rub problem areas like elbows, knees and feet with a loofah (Hydrea’s Egyptian Loofah Mitt is great) and apply a comforting moisturiser like Essential Care’s Ultra Rich Balm.
Voila! Glowing, soft, beautiful skin, ready to face the world again. Come on sun! We’re ready for you.
