Your fabulous fashionista and daisygreenmagazine.co.uk were invited to Trendstop 2009/2010, the trend analysis for fashion professionals.

Trendstop is used by designers, magazines and stylists for inspiration and trend forecasting.

On arrival we were treated to canapés and organic wine courtesy of Stellar Winery and Oval Structured Vodka which was a warming welcome following the blistering walk from Queens Park Station.

The evening kicked off with a colourful greeting from Jaana Jätyri, ex St Martin’s student and CEO of Trendstop. The online trend book was launched in 2004 and is giving WGSN a run for pole position in the trends stakes.

Elena Garcia, our favourite designer from CDC delivered a brief introduction to the company, outlining those Trendstop forecasts from April 2008 that have evolved in A/W 2009.

Predicted trend 1 Scary Tale: the use of purple, teal, black tape, hypnotic prints and Edwardian lace.
Predicted trend 2 Paris of the Orient: translated into Chinese red Poirot, cocoons, shapes and upholstery details.

Then followed the ground breaking news.

Menswear has taken over darling! Men have discovered couture and menswear has become distinctive and creative (as seen in Prada and DG) and women, although using the same narrative, are just doing it differently (and not as excitingly either).

Mr Daisy listen up, the new 2009/10 trend is for 19th century dandy, slicked back hair, faux brocades, velvet and damask – will this stand up to the cold northern weather?

But still, slightly less daunting then the predictions for women and menswear 2010: unisex, oh yes, the skirt/pant hybrid with an effeminate softness and waisted too. Another excuse to borrow my man’s clothing.

All in all a fantastic evening. My eyes were popping out of their sockets at all the amazing designs and glorious pictures. But the best bit of the evening for me was the prediction that designers would be taking on the challenge of the planet and its sustainability, as consumers demand more transparency and ethics.

Oh yes guys its happening! And it’s down to us demanding change. Hurrah.
