The importance of education for children cannot be overstated; education promotes better health, improved self-esteem and the development of skills that are essential for making a living in later life.

For 100 million children across the globe, poverty prevents them accessing the education they so desperately need. If we do not join the fight against poverty and inequality now, we are condemning these children to a life of misery and despair.

These are the words of Steve Cram MBE, Olympic gold medal winner and Chairman of CoCo, the charity dedicated to ensuring the poorest children receive the education they deserve.

The CoCo ball is an annual event held in Newcastle upon Tyne, and this year the Daisy Green team were out in force. After Mr Daisy Green’s name was pulled out of the raffle for our own hamper  (very spooky indeed!) the hamper went back into the draw with a £200 donation to the charity. After all, once you have taught children, the concept that there are kids who are not educated (even though it costs just £65 per YEAR for each child to go to school) is hard to take; children who have to write their names on their desks and literally carry them with them throughout their education.
