Lucy Borrell finds the ultimate capsule wardrobe for travelling light

Kipepeo dress from Lalesso

Wherever you’re going on your holidays this year you’ll want to travel light. But the pressure’s on to look good too.

So we’ve put together the ultimate guide to pared down packing – fab looking ethical clothes and accessories for every eventuality. Bon voyage!

DRESSES
This summer, the Little Black Dress has been ditched in favour of dresses that are bold, bright and full of colour. If you feel like trying something bright and bold, Lalesso.com have a wide variety of gorgeous summer dresses made in Africa using local employees and local materials. All of these dresses, including this Kipepo dress (£58, pictured right) are light, airy, versatile and can fold up to fit into the smallest of suitcases!

TOPS
Whether you are relaxing by the beach, exploring cities or roaming around the countryside, tops and T-shirts are a basic essential for any tourist. And if you’re looking for something a bit different, bratandsuzie.com do a range of animal print T-shirts. We love this white vest with the print of the otter wearing glasses on the front (£24), which can be teamed with denim shorts and worn as daywear or with leggings/skinny jeans for a casual evening look.

SHORTS AND SKIRTS
As the sun comes out to play it is only natural that your jeans will be banished to the back of the closet in favour of something lighter and cooler. This beautiful skirt (only£40) is available from the ever ethical peopletree.com and is perfect for keeping cool in the summer months.

Of course, for those of us unwilling to spend a lot of money on revamping our entire wardrobe this season, shorts and skirts are where savings can be made. For instance, it is quite easy and inexpensive to turn an old pair of jeans into a pair of cut off shorts – all you need is a pair of scissors! See our customising guide here

JACKETS
If you’re going on holiday, it is always a good idea to take a jacket with you. No matter where you are staying the probability is that as the sun sets, the temperature will plummet. But coats can add a lot of weight to your suitcase. So opt for a light jacket, or blazer like this one from responsiblygorgeous.co.uk  (£79) which will not only keep you warm, but synches in at the waist to make the most of your figure.

SHOES AND BAGS
When you’re stepping out this summer, make sure that you sizzle with these Melissa shoes from BourgeoisBoheme.com (£50). Made of recycled plastic and infused with bubblegum scent they are extremely comfortable making them the ultimate travelling shoe.

There are also a varied range of bags available on the ethical market such as this Hemera eel skin handbag ( £163) from bobelle.co.uk which is perfect for carrying all those extra bits and bobs you need to cart around on holiday.

ACCESSORIES
It is a well know fact that accessories can make or break and outfit. To compliment the big bold patterns of this season’s trends, jewellery that’s both subtle and delicate is becoming more and more popular. Responsiblygorgeous.co.uk have a great selection of necklaces and bracelets made from ethical materials in Peru, including this beautiful Silver Marisol Pendant. ( £26)
