Oooh la la

Lupe Castro's got the latest ethical fashion news from London and Paris

Wundervoll Cassava Set

I’m on the Eurostar sandwiched between window and exhibitor on the way back from Prêt a Porter in Paris.

Seems bizarre that I’m writing article about what’s new in London (but more from Paris later).

In Cred’s (store.credjewellery.com) new showroom in Farringdon, there is a whole new collection by Annabel Panes called ‘Miss Penelope’ – it’s as cool as ice. The collection is made from Oro Verde Fair Trade 18ct white gold, and is set with opulent ethically sourced aqua, iolite, rhodalite, sapphire and amethyst from Africa, India and South America.

The collection takes inspiration from the designer’s grandmother of the same name. Part of the 30s cocktail set, she saw jewellery as the basis on which to create an outfit. Prices start at £262. Feast your eyes!

And with the 30s in mind, the Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair (www.clerkenwellvintagefashionfair.co.uk) is back. Set to coincide with LFW on 21 February, it takes place at the art nouveau gem of The Urdang, The Old Finsbury Town Hall, Rosebery Avenue, London EC1R 4RP.

It always includes at least 40 traders from all over the UK and Europe selling affordable vintage clothing and accessories from the 1800s-1980s, as well as designer pieces to recycle and revamp in modern times. It’s got to be one of my favourites - there are some new dealers from Paris, as well as a totally new section for vintage wedding dresses, tiaras and veils and if you’re already getting dizzy thinking about it

Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair

Vintage Heaven of Columbia Road are running the Vintage Tea Room for that pick me up moment. You can also buy fabulous vintage crockery, table cloths and napkins. The Powder Puff girls will be on hand for make overs for as little as £10, so don’t forget to take your camera so you can replicate at home!

So I have just discovered the most exciting collection of all time in Paris and its underwear, Wundervoll (www.wundervoll.com). It’s to die for and terribly vintage in a sort of Blue Angel way.

It’s run by founder, Mathias Jaschke, whose family own the traditional and high end quality and innovative bedroom textile company, Formesse. Production takes place totally in Germany, and uses high quality natural materials such as jersey from exceptionally high grade certified organic cotton with 10 per cent lycra.

Colour combinations like macadamia, papyrus, gold matte, copper and classic black with clear structurally placed piping provide special highlighting to female contours and our favourite assets…You can get it at Apartment C (www.apartment-c.com).

Talking about finds, there is Nu Jeans. Organic and fair trade, I’m in love with their skinnies, they are going to be selling on line from next week so keep an eye out on their site (www.le-jeans-nu.com).

Let’s keep bugging them to hurry up and get started in the UK.

MbyM Go Green Collection

Oh and these little dresses from MbyM’s Go Green Collection are great for well priced basics. The pieces are all  made in Lenzing modal (a natural fibre made from beech wood) which is a ‘close looped system’. Available in black, white, cream and greys they’re all year round stock.  You can get them in Tsars in Cornwall, No-one in London, Get Cutie in Brighton and Pink Poodle in Glasgow. But a little run out says one of the big supermarket boys will be up for taking them on. Hurrah!

Having wowed everyone on the Daisy Green catwalk with Chantel in a pair of extremely pink Life’s not Fair but my Knickers are…vest and shorties, I just had to sneak a preview of their new collection Paris side. And girls, be prepared to ROAR… there is something afoot and its wild!! (www.lifesnotfairbutmyknickersare.com)

Talking about Paris, here’s a couple of designers that I am lusting after…

Royal Blush – designed by Jana Keller who’s inspired by the swiss Alps and catering to city nomads with handbags as practical as an alpinists and jewellery reminiscent of climbing gear! Using Salmon leather from a bio farm in Ireland and Italian calf leather, vegetable dying and tanning takes place gently through artisans using bark and roots.

Looks like I am not the only one either: the fan club includes Amber Sakai, Anna Lynne McCord and Melissa George (www.royalblush.ch).

Magdalena Schaffrin presents eco de luxe working in the global season. Which means for Schaffrin, one collection, where the pieces can be ordered in warmer materials for winter and lighter materials for summer. Gosh and does that make sense! The pieces are classic and timeless I love her endless quest on fabrics and her trousers are just about perfect. She does a menswear collection, and her three collar shirt is whimsical as well as practical. (www.magdalenaschaffrin.com)

Just in case you think I have totally forgotton about Valentines Day, here is a little bargain from Leblas’s Valentine Mi Amor range in recycled stirling silver that start from £95.

Oui oui so now I guess its time to find an amour…
