Stay ahead of the game

It seems like only yesterday that we were starting to get excited about the Great British Summer but, like all good things, the sunshine must end and all too quickly we find ourselves racing towards long nights, short days and snow.

But fear not, for a change of season means a change in wardrobe. Here’s a sneak peak at the Autumn and Winter 2010/2011 trends brought to you by our favourite ethical brands, giving us a reason to look forward to cooler weather.

THE LITTLE RED DRESS
Move over, Little black dress – there’s a new party frock in town!  Bold, daring and bright, red is the perfect colour for adding some life into a dull winter’s night. What’s more, red is one of those magic colours that suits everyone, irrespective of their colouring.

Red was also a key colour in summer seasons fashion this year, so it is quite easy to find red dresses relatively cheaply. This Leilani dress  is currently available from peopletree.co.uk reduced from £52 to £20, and can quite easily be accessorised to suit the colder months with a dark jacket, short blazer or lacey cardigan.

MILITARY
The concept of the military influencing fashion has been a key winter trend since the turn of the decade. This season is no exception. What is so great about this trend, is you can take it how ever far you like to reflect your personality. These hareem pants from responsiblygorgeous.co.uk (£64) would look brilliant teamed with a pair of ankle boots and a big jacket.

Alternatively, if you prefer a more subtle approach, team a blazer with skinny jeans and military styled boots like these from responsiblygorgeous.co.uk, £155. These boots are multi functional so they can be worn just above the ankle, or as calf boots depending upon what your circumstance requires!

NICE AND NEUTRAL
In autumn/winter 2010/2011 neutral colours and lace will be making a come back with fashionistas up and down the country ditching their bold flowery designs  in favour of something a little more subtle and delicate.

Ethicsgirls.co.uk have a many items of clothing that suit this trend from their their white butterfly blouse ( £25) and Mohair Leaf Cardigan (£64) to the beautiful Chantal dress (£225). Of course, for those of us with summer clothes still in tip top condition, summer dresses such as this dress from puritystyle.com( £35) can be made more appropriate to the winter trends by wearing with lacey tights.

WRAPPING UP WARM
Fashions may come and go, but one winter trend always in vogue the need for warmth! Of course, wrapping up warm and looking good can sometimes prove difficult, but with this coat from consciousconsumer.co.uk, priced at only £56 - it’s a problem easily solved.

Also available from puritystyle.co.uk are a wide range of fab winter accessories, such as this scarf available in both cream and purple for £10. Not only is it cheap, ethical and stylish, but it is also perfect for keeping the neck warm in the winter weather.

Layering is another great way to keep warm and it offers the perfect opportunity to get creative. Try charity shops and vintage outlets to get a look truly unique to you without breaking the bank.
