All new Cumbrian cycling festival

The Eden Spoke Festival 2013

The first ever ‘Eden Spoke Festival’ is an all new weekend on two wheels, set to take place this summer in Eden, nestling between lakes and mountains and Cumbria’s Pennine Fells, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August 2013.

This brand new cycling weekend, based in the heart of the beautiful district of Eden is set to be a wheelie great event, brought to you by Lakeland Rides, Nurture Eden and Eden District Council, focused around three brand new and inspiring 100km and 50km sportive rides.

But that’s not all, there’s also a load for families and youngsters to do as well, including a 10km family ride and a series of children’s fun 800m blast rides. All of which are nicely rounded off with a healthy helping of family fun activities, making this festival something for all ages and abilities!

The Festival hub will centre on Frenchfield Sports Centre, Penrith, where we can guarantee there will be a cracking atmosphere for both spectators and participants alike. As well as being the starting point for the each of the sportive and families rides, the centre will be home to musical shenanigans, a range of delicious local food and drink producers, bike retailers and trade stands, Also on offer will be heaps of bike related events, including; workshops, skills demos and talks throughout the weekend.

The Rides have all been planned with you, the cyclist in mind. The team have made every attempt to incorporate the best quiet lanes and B roads available in the area, giving you the most inspiring riding in the UK!

Routes include the Hartside Hundred sportive, The Tour of Eden 100km and 50km sportive rides and Eden Killer Combo (Hartside and Eden combined)

Everyone who enters the sportive rides will benefit from free parking, fully way marked routes, well stocked feed, fuel and repair stations, electronic chip timing and a free digital photo memento of the day.

You will be able to view maps and profiles of the 100km, 50km and 10km family ride courses and a photo slideshow of the courses in the next few weeks, so keep an eye on the website.

‘The Eden Spoke Festival’ is the start of something magical, a fantastic chance to highlight what an awesome place Eden is for adventures on two wheels. Offering visitors the opportunity to have truly memorable experiences in beautiful settings, whilst also looking after the environment.

Lakeland Rides will donate funds from the entry fees as part of their partnership with Nurture Eden. This initiative is part of a visitor giving scheme that enables businesses and their customers to support fantastic environment projects in Eden.

A philosophy you will find at the very heart of all that Nurture Eden’s undertakes; supporting businesses in and around Eden, helping them develop a wide-ranging programme of low impact, responsible tourism activity in a true Garden of Eden.
