I love buttons

Make a simple hair clip and revamp a jumper for pennies

Buttons and kirby grips

Buttons and kirby grips

Aren’t buttons great?

They are easy to use, cheap to buy and can transform and outfit. Of course, the best buttons are the antique and vintage ones that you pick up from flea markets and charity shops.

But you have to be prepared to hunt. I visited about a dozen charity shops on my first button search, and I was repeatedly disappointed.

Typically I found treasure in the last one where I snaffled an old sewing box bursting with reels of cotton, needles and buttons. All for £3!

Hair clips in seconds
Take a kirby grip and slide a button (with a shank on the back rather than holes in it) onto the kirby grip. Voila! Slide into your hair.

Revamp a jumper
This lovely organic cotton Edina Ronay jumper was an absolute steal in the TK MAXX sale and is one of the very few new items I have bought in the last 12 months since Daisy was launched.

A really easy way to revamp and jumper or T shirt is to sew a few buttons onto the neck line. Here the trick is to select a few buttons whose colours complement the jumper.

Using an odd number of buttons, decide which one is the focal point and pop that onto the the middle of the neck line. Select the other buttons in pairs and work outwards along the neck line. Lay them down to get the best design before sewing.

Here I chose a larger button for the middle with the smallest buttons at the end.
