T-shirt to scarf in 4 easy steps

Gabrielle Treanor shares her latest 'make and do'

If you’re having a spring clean of your wardrobe it’s easy to transform an old T-shirt into a light scarf.

If you don’t have a T-shirt you want to cut up, have a root around in your local charity shop for one instead.

I really like the green and white stripes of the T-shirt I used, but it’s a bit too short for me and the days of flashing my mid-riff are long gone!

What you will need:

  • An old T-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine (or you can hand stitch)

To make the scarf:

1. Iron your T-shirt and lay it on a table as flat as possible.

2. Cut straight across the T-shirt just under the arms. On the rectangle you’ve just made measure the halfway point and cut across again to make two equal-sized rectangles.

3. Cut out one of the seams from each rectangle so you have two long pieces of fabric. Pin the two pieces right sides together and stitch along the short sides.

4. You now have one long loop of fabric so simply wrap it around your neck as many times as is comfortable and away you go!
