A gift for all ages
Part one - expectant mums and children
Here at Daisy Green we have been keeping our eyes peeled for some lovely Christmas pressies for your nearest and dearest.
This first installment is for pregnant ladies, babies and children.
For expectant mums
This year, gone is the alcohol for you. It’s time for pampering and putting your feet up. Drop some heavy hints and after Christmas you could be pouring some lovely organic bath soaks into your tub. There is a lot of choice out there.
Even better, indulge in some chocolates before getting out of the bath and wrapping yourself up in an organic cotton or bamboo towel.
Ecocentric.co.uk – An ideal gift for a pregnant lady. A relaxing and pampering organic gift box. The ingredients are all natural, organic and eco-friendly, so much so that you can eat all of the ingredients (we wouldn’t recommend it though). Each gift box includes tummy oil, sleepy balm, rose geranium bubble bath and rose soap. All products are paraben-free and no nut oils are used. £16.50
Montezumas.co.uk – Although we advocate healthy eating in pregnancy, surely a little of what you fancy does you good? Try this delectable Christmas hamper by Montezuma called, ‘The Piper’. Contents include Christmas truffle box, milk chocolate snowmen, Kirsch cherries, smooth milk bar, Emperor nutmeg bar and milking maid truffle bag. £35.00
theorganictowelcompany.co.uk – Exquisitely soft 100% organic cotton, these bath towels are Fairtrade certified to the highest fair trading standards. The cotton is sourced from the Chetna Cotton Project in central India. This project is run by a group of farmers from the region who work together to produce cotton which is organically grown. £27.99
For babies
There are so many things to buy the little ones in your life. As a parent to be, this year I have chosen three items I would love for my baby.
welovefrugi.com offers a fantastic range of 100% organic cotton and we can’t help but love this penguin stripe baby grow for £14.90. Would look great on a boy or girl, and better when teamed up with the matching hat – an absolute winner of an outfit for the festive season.
noonoodesign.com - Comfort galore. Bug-gy is a mini comfort blanket with felted textural bobbles, flowers and loops. Bug-gy has been designed as an add-on for prams, buggies, pushchairs, car seats, cots and high chairs providing a welcome alternative to plastic distracters. Handmade from the softest felted lambswool for £8.99.
Inch-blue.com has created adorable soft leather baby shoes since 1990 and this year sees the introduction of Cwtch sheepskin boots. Cwtch is the Welsh word for ‘love’ in the form of a hug or cuddle and I must admit I love, love, love these boots. Each pair is made from the softest sheepskin we could find, hand stitched and presented in a beautiful gift box. Priced at £25 it’s a more considered purchase but, honestly, don’t consider them too long – they are truly adorable.
For me though, the loveliest gift of all is a a pressie that handmade by a friend or family member - something to treasure for years to come.
For children
Babies grow into toddlers then children very quickly but there are still some great organic and fairtrade gifts out there.
littleeco.com have some fantastic gifts for children. One of our particular favourites is the multi stripe crochet Reindeer which is a lovely alternative to a teddy. The long limbs on this reindeer make him very appealing to children – and very huggable! Every Anne-Claire Petit accessory is handmade according to traditional handiwork techniques, using recognisable colour schemes and natural materials. A great deal of the crochet work is done in Asia where women work in small groups together from home generating an income throughout most of the year – something from which the entire village benefits. £49.99
lulasapphire.com have a lovely selection of eco toys including the eco friendly recycling truck. Here the little one can sort bottles, cans and paper or just have a blast! Your little eco warrior will learn recycling basics whilst playing with this super cool truck that has a moveable recycling bed and open/shut rear door. The eco-design has no metal axles, and contains no BPA, phthalates or lead paint. And what’s more they’re made from recycled milk jugs. Yes you read that right. Green Toys use recycled milk containers as the main ingredient for creating all their toys, so you can feel really good while the little one tears up the living room. £25.95
ecocentric.co.uk – for the children we have chosen a beautifully handcrafted wooden jigsaw puzzle where each piece represents a different county. Each jigsaw is cut and painted by hand using wood sourced from sustainable forests. Each piece is vibrantly painted to keep children stimulated during play time. The paints and primers used are child friendly and non-toxic. The strong durable wood means this charming educational tool can be passed down from generation to generation. Handmade in a rural part of Sri Lanka in a fair trade environment. £34.99
