Christmas is coming, belts are tightening and even the infallible Marks & Spencers is quids down at the moment, but all this financial insecurity is not stopping eco-conscious buying, thinking and living. This is according to a recent poll conducted by ooffoo, the brand new exciting eco space where it’s FREE to swap, sell, give away, recycle and share ideas with like-minded people.
Ooffoo asked: ‘Does the credit crunch affect your green or ethical considerations’ and over 500 people responded in the first three weeks of the site’s public launch. The vote closed with 78 per cent of voters confidently declaring that tighter times would not be affecting their green purchasing power. In fact some voters commented that, now more than ever, support for better business is crucial.
This is clearly great news for authentic green and ethical companies offering sustainable, eco-friendly products and services, particularly in the run-up to Christmas. At this time of year, the heightened thrill of mass consumerism can cause even the most conscientious of us to waver in our eco-commitments.
Ooffoo was launched this November by multiple award-winning eco retailer Natural Collection. It is an online eco community offering a completely free selling, monitoring, blogging and swapping service. With no listing fees or commissions, ooffoo can really help people beat the credit crunch whilst encouraging swapping and recycling as an alternative to spending money and buying new.
Bringing together key trends including recycling, consumer knowledge and power, community and local, handmade and ‘make do and mend’, ooffoo is just what people need to weather the economic storm, reduce spending and reactivate communities.
Budding writers, passionate eco-warriors and the simply eco-curious will find plenty to inspire. Daisy Green Magazine was one of the first companies to sign up to ooffoo as is a great place to find and share information, products and services, encourage positive thinking and meet likeminded people. In fact, after just three weeks of being accessible to the general public over 400 listings and articles had been added to ooffoo and hundreds of comments have been made.
The site is even running a writing competition to find the ‘Ooffoo Laureate of the Year’ which carries a £500 prize and, obviously, the prestigious title.
And, in case you were wondering – 00ff00 is the html code for the colour green and signifies that ooffoo is THE place on the web where people can come together to tint anything and everything green!
