Inspired by children

My son was my inspiration

Anyone who has children knows how special it is to have their child carefully and lovingly draw them a picture. Recently, I spoke to a mum who’s passion for own son’s artwork developed into something more. Rose Mockford, mydesignmade explains.

Whilst wading through a huge pile of my little boy’s artwork, none of which I wanted to throw away and all of which had its own special quality, I came up with the idea that has turned into a fledgling business.

It was very simple. I wanted to share my son’s art with friends and family. Gently enhancing it, I used his designs to make adorable greetings cards. It developed further: I realised I could take any child’s art and apply it to a range of products that they could be proud of.

So what drives your passion?

The benefits are obvious, the children’s self-esteem is boosted as all their nearest and dearest could appreciate what talented and creative little people they have sharing their lives.

Company ethics.

Right from the start I wanted to offer an ethically responsible business approach. This means using high quality recycled card, organic cotton and FSC approved wood and I offering advice on products with the highest ethical rating.  Nurseries and schools can nominate a charity to receive a percentage payment from product sales.

The process

It’s so simple. Almost anything can be used: drawings, paintings, collage, and printing. As soon as I receive the work, I continue the creative journey that your child began. The nerve jangling bit is sending out digital proofs for approval and then waiting for a response, especially from the child.

Your ultimate inspiration?

Being able to celebrate and share children’s own special creativity and the thrill of every child’s proud smile when they see their designs made.
