Ecotricity unveils ‘UK’s most generous feed tariff’
Supplier offers 'highest' payment for home generated green electricity
Apr 20th, 2010
The UK’s ‘most generous Feed in Tariff rate’ has been unveiled by Ecotricity.
Ecotricity is launching a brand new initiative which it has dubbed ‘Microtricity‘. Also known as a Feed in Tariff (FiT), or a ‘clean energy cash back scheme’, Microtricity is a tariff which pays people for every unit of green electricity they generate on a micro-scale at home using renewable technology such as solar PV panels and mini windmills.
A minimum payment for the electricity generated is guaranteed, as well as any excess electricity exported to the grid. The exact Microtricity tariff will vary according to the size and technology of people’s system, with the tariffs divided into bands based on the total capacity.
And Ecotricity, the ‘world’s first green electricity company’, has also confirmed that it will offer existing home generators the highest rate in the UK. It says that green energy pioneers who installed micro generation much earlier should be getting more support than the Government is offering, and so will be offering a rate of 16p per unit to early adopters – the UK’s most generous and well over the standard rate of around 10.5p.
Dale Vince, founder and MD of Ecotricity, said: “There’s never been a better time for you to install your own source of green energy, or a better scheme than Microtricity to help you do it. But the real pioneers of homemade green energy have been left a bit out in the cold by the new rules, to be honest – so we’re also offering them the best rate we can to try and close the gap and more properly support them for their commitment to move Britain from old brown to new green energy.”
