Ethical investments holding up well despite downturn say experts

National Ethical Investment Week highlights how and where to invest

Nov 8th, 2009

If you’ve been toying with the idea of investing ethically but never got round to it, now could be the best time to take the plunge.

It’s National Ethical Investment Week (NEIW) from 8 – 14 November and with it comes the news that that green and ethical investments are doing well despite the recession.

Green and ethical investments allow you to have a positive impact on the environment and society, while still making as good a return as you would with other investments.

NEIW brings together Advisers, Charities and Trusts, Financial Organisations, Faith Groups, NGOS and Community Groups to raise awareness of green and ethical investing.

The second National Ethical Investment Week aims to build on the strength of last year’s week, which saw over 100 organisations, including financial services firms, financial advisers, NGOs and charities voice their support.

George Latham of Henderson Global Investors, one of the sponsors of the Week, said,

“The past few years have shown that ethical and green investors can combine competitive financial returns with their desire for environmental and social progress…The current market environment serves only to highlight the importance of many of the issues that such investments aim to tackle.”

The good news is, how ever baffled you are by the world of finance, there are now some great websites that cut through the jargon and choice to make decisions easier. Try yourethicalmoney.org, a one-stop shop for information on green and ethical investments, or neiw.org which has consumer-friendly information on ethical investing.

  1. I’ve been watching ethical and green investing take shape for about forty years. Global consciousness on this subject has changed radically in the past few years and is now more accepting than at any time previously. It’s clear that if we want an Earth to support our future generations, we have to begin to take care of it now!

Incidentally, for anyone interested in green and ethical investing, I have one of the most popular global sites on the web on the subject. It also covers the latest related news and research too. It’s at http://investingforthesoul.com/

    Best wishes, Ron Robins
