Good Energy partners River Cottage for sustainable Autumn Fair
100% renewable electricity
Sep 11th, 2009
Good Energy, the 100% renewable electricity supplier, is partnering with River Cottage for its annual Autumn Fair this weekend in Devon.
This is another step in its role as sustainability partner to the organic living specialists.
As well as giving a talk with environmental consultants Satellite Architects about sustainability measures implemented at River Cottage, experts from Good Energy will be on hand at four ‘sustainability spots’ to provide specific information on certain aspects of River Cottage’s sustainability.
This includes using wood for heating; solar power to pump water; wind to generate electricity; rainwater for irrigation gardens and a reed bed system which processes their waste water.
Juliet Davenport, Founder and CEO of Good Energy said: “River Cottage’s focus on sustainability now reaches beyond its wonderful food to the energy it uses. The Autumn Fair is a great way to show everyone attending how easy and rewarding generating your own renewable power can be. We hope River Cottage will inspire others to do the same.”
Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, founder of River Cottage, said: “At River Cottage we’re extending our sustainable thinking beyond our food production and consumption to our energy production and consumption too. Good Energy is part of that and they’ve been working with us to help us improve our carbon footprint. ”
Working with environmental consultants Satellite Architects, River Cottage HQ was designed and renovated on sustainable principles, ranging from the materials used in the buildings to a self-ufficient rainwater harvesting and recycling system. When the project is complete, River Cottage HQ will be a zero carbon, off-grid site running on a variety of renewable energy solutions providing all heat and power requirements, supported by Good Energy.
A telemetric monitoring system sponsored by Good Energy enables you to see how much electricity is being generated at any one time by the River Cottage wind turbine.
Good Energy customers, by buying 100% renewable electricity, support over 800 independent generators across the UK, including River Cottage.
