Fake Bake – the review

90% organic and no 'nasties'. But did it work?

Fake bake in the home

November is just that time of year when the last of the summer tan has faded and I start dreaming about warm weather and lying  in the sun again.

Having long been a fan of fake tans, I felt it fell to me to review Fake Bake; oh what a hard life.

The website looked promising:

“Fake Bake gives an instant sun-kissed colour and develops into a long lasting sunless fake tan by combining naturally derived tanning agents DHA and Erythulose guaranteeing longer lasting (up to 50% longer), more natural-looking results. We have developed botanical ingredients to remove parabens and artificial preservatives.”

So instant tan, no parabens or artificial preservatives and over 90% organic ingredients.

Barbara Ainscow turned up at my house, gear in tow and recommended that we go somewhere with a hard standing floor if possible. Bubbly and chatty, she explained that the whole experience would last about 20 minutes. She removed what looks like a blowy-up castle from the case and blew it up.

Stripping down to my pants, I positioned myself inside the ‘pod’ and Barbara set to work. The spray was quick, and I had been warned that it would be a little cold. It took about 10 minutes in total for Barbara to cover me completely,  and massage any areas which need a little more attention. The smell wasn’t overpowering, slightly fruity and hadn’t yet developed that ‘false tan reek’ that comes with most standard products.

Mr Daisy said I looked ridiculous immediately after I’d been sprayed but loved the results the next morning.

I had certainly changed colour, that’s for sure. And it was fascinating - I looked like I’d been on holiday. I couldn’t believe the change. Overnight, I slept on a old towel to reduce the risk of stains, but I was assured that it would all wash out.

Fake Bake claim that their tan can last up to 50% longer if you take care of it, and mine was put through its paces when we all visited the Titanic Spa, but happily I can report that after swimming and oily massages, the tan had coped and was still doing its work.

I loved the whole experience of getting this treatment at home, the tan was really natural and lasted well. And using a formula that has reduced nasties in it certainly works for me. I would recommend this tan for any special occasion, or if, like me, you just needed a bit of sunshine in your life.

  1. Hi, loved the review. I tried my friends xen-tan fake tan and loved it. I am rubbish at putting fake tan on it but this was really easy and looked like I had been away. i would love to hear your review?
