A light drinker
Solid, stylish and eco-friendly, we're sold on SIGG water bottles
The first time I saw a SIGG bottle in the public domain it was in the hands of some A-list celebrity on the cover of a glossy magazine.
It looked familiar and I remembered that on a recent trekking trip at least a third of the guys had one. My brain made that inevitable connection between stylish and durable and I bought one.
My bottle is all white with just a tiny logo in the corner but there’s a multitude of different designs and colours so the only limit is your imagination. I guess my choice shows I have none.
My first impressions were all massively positive. I know, of course, that plastic bottles are an environmental nuisance. I also know the importance of re-hydrating when travelling so the reasoning behind my purchase was sound.
I also became aware of what good I was doing to the environment with such a little gesture. I fill mine with tap water so in my small way I save money, natural resources and reduce waste – a triple whammy!
But one of the beauties of this product is that initially you may not choose it for its green credentials but for all sorts of other reasons. Whether you buy one because it is long-lasting, because it won’t affect the taste of your water, because it will never break or because it saves you using plastic… it’s all good.
In the past the BPA (bisphenol-A) debate caused a number of people to shift from plastic bottles to reusable water bottle. The new EcoCare liners that SIGG produces have absolutely no BPA but even if you have an older bottle (prior to August 2008) – don’t worry, they showed 0% leaching.
A few weeks on and I am very happy with my purchase, a few bumps and scrapes on the bottle show that I am a travelled owner. From time to time I come across other owners showing how this bump was done on a train in China, or that scrape was from a climbing trip in Canada. Every bottle tells a story – plus I really do find that the water tastes better.
SIGG bottles are 0.6 litre size and retail at £12.99 each from www.sigg.com

I love my Sigg bottle. . Sigg sell specific brushes to help you clean them, which can be handy around the lid, although the inside doesn’t need any cleaning usually, just regular rinsing with warm water. I find the water doesn’t go odd tasting, as it sometimes does when left in an open glass for a few hours.
Cafepress also sell Siggs, and you can even upload your own image to be printed on them. Awesome for presents!
